BMW's love affair with crossover coupes continues as the company's upcoming X2 has been spied undergoing winter testing.

 

Looking significantly sportier than the X1, the X2 has short front fascia with a wider grille that is flanked large headlights. Moving further back, we can see a rakish windscreen, a relatively low roof, and a compact greenhouse. The model also has an upward sweeping beltline, a tailgate-mounted spoiler, and an angular rear window.

 

Since the model is essentially a rebodied version of the X1, engine options should carryover. This means we can expect an assortment of different petrol and diesel units including a 2.0-liter TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder engine that develops 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

 

Since the model is based on the UKL platform, front wheel drive will likely be standard. However, all-wheel drive will undoubtedly be available as an option.

 

BMW has been tight-lipped about the X2 but it is expected to be unveiled later this year before going on sale in 2017. Pricing remains unconfirmed but the model will likely cost a few thousand dollars more than the X1 which starts at $34,800.
