New Peugeot 3008 spied looking more like a crossover

The second-generation Peugeot 3008 was captured on camera by our spy photographers while the prototype was conducting winter testing ahead of its launch later this year.

 

With each new batch of spy images, it’s getting clearer and clearer the upcoming 3008 will look more like a crossover than a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). This will likely turn out to be a smart move as the popularity of high-riding models hasn’t peaked yet, while demand for people carriers is seeing a slowdown. Taking into account China is the 3008’s main market, it’s no wonder Peugeot wants to turn it into a crossover since the segment is booming over there.

 

The reinvented compact model will be sold with an assortment of efficient turbocharged three- and four-cylinder engines that will work with a standard front-wheel drive system. However, some of the beefier motors will probably be offered with an optional all-wheel drive arrangement. Don’t hold your breath for a diesel-electric hybrid as Peugeot has announced the HYbrid4 setup - which debuted in the 3008 - will soon be phased out.

 

The all-new 3008 could be show as early as the beginning of March during the Geneva Motor Show, but Peugeot could decide to wait until October for the Paris Motor Show.
