MINI Clubman will allegedly go all-wheel drive next spring, JCW to follow
A new report states MINI has plans to launch an all-wheel drive Clubman as early as next spring.
MotoringFile is citing sources close to MINI that have revealed plans to start offering an all-paw Clubman as early as March next year and deliveries will apparently commence shortly thereafter. The All4 system will obviously be derived from the xDrive setup available in the BMW 2-Series Active Tourer minivan from where the second generation Clubman has borrowed the UKL platform.
According to the same source, MINI will offer as standard the all-wheel drive arrangement on the range-topping Clubman John Cooper Works as well. Production of the JCW version is believed to commence in about a year from now, following an official reveal likely to occur in the first half of 2016.
In United States, the AWD standard Clubman will command a premium of around $1,500 over the equivalent front-wheel drive variant and will add an estimated 134 lbs (61 kg) of bulk as a result of the more complex hardware arrangement.
An official introduction of the six-door Clubman with an All4 system is expected to take place this winter and MINI could decide to bring it to NAIAS in January.
