2017 Cadillac XT5 gets detailed
Cadillac has officially unveiled the 2017 XT5, following a preview earlier this year.
Set to become the first member of the company's new Crossover Touring (XT) lineup, the XT5 replaces the SRX and will become one of brand's most important models.
On the styling front, the crossover has an upright grille which is flanked by angular air intakes and distinctively styled headlights. The model also has a sculpted hood, prominent character lines and a sloping roof. Other highlights include LED daytime running lights, a tailgate-mounted spoiler and 18- or 20-inch alloy wheels.
The interior takes a major leap forward as it features higher-quality materials, a modern design and a new CUE infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Cadillac was light on specifics but confirmed the crossover will be offered with five different interior colors as well as aluminum, carbon fiber and wood fiber trim. The company also revealed XT5 has more rear-seat legroom than the SRX and will be available with an optional Heads-Up Display.
There will also be Driver Awareness and Driver Assist packages that add safety features such as automatic braking, Lane Keeping Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Parking Assist.
In the United States, the model will be powered by a 3.6-liter V6 engine that features cylinder deactivation technology, a start/stop system and variable valve timing. It produces an estimated 310 bhp (231 kW) and 270 lb-ft (365 Nm) of torque.
Chinese consumers, on the other hand, will receive an XT5 with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine.
Both engines will be connected to an eight-speed automatic transmission with an Electronic Precision Shift system. Cadillac says it reduces noise and vibration as well as increases interior space as it allows for a storage compartment to be located underneath the center console.
The model can also be equipped with an optional all-wheel drive system that promises to deliver excellent traction in wet, snowy or icy conditions.
The XT5 rides on an all-new platform that enables the it to weigh 278 lbs (126 kg) less than the outgoing SRX. The model also weighs 100 lbs (45 kg) less than the Audi Q5 and is more than 650 lbs (295 kg) lighter than the Mercedes GLE.
The 2017 Cadillac XT5 will be shown later this month at the Dubai and Los Angeles auto shows before going into production in the spring of 2016.
