Honda to launch ten-speed automatic gearbox in the “near future”
Honda has revealed plans to introduce a ten-speed automatic gearbox in the near future.
The announcement was made by the chief officer for technology strategy Keiji Ohtsu who went on to specify it will be used for front-wheel drive cars and is going to replace the six-speed auto currently found in combination with the 3.5-liter V6 engine powering several Honda and Acura models such as the Odyssey and the RLX, respectively.
Developed entirely in-house, Honda’s new ten-speed auto ‘box has just about the same size as the outgoing six-speed transmission and this will make it compatible with a wide variety of models in the near future. Ohtsu also mentions it changes gears 30% faster and grants a fuel economy boost of at least 6% while at the same time improving acceleration performance by a significant 14%.
