Lexus LF-FC goes official to preview the next generation LS fuel cell flagship
Lexus has taken the wraps off the LF-FC concept which as we assumed acts as a preview for the next-gen LS flagship model.
The latest concept from Lexus takes the shape of an elegant full-size sedan that is 5,300 mm long, 2,000 mm wide and 1,410 mm tall, with a sleek design incorporating the company’s latest “L-finesse” philosophy. It has been styled to look like a grand touring vehicle and comes with an evolution of the large spindle grille that now has a different mesh design while on the sides of the front fascia are the now familiar L-shaped LED daytime running lights which have a correspondent in the back where the taillights adopt a similar floating theme. Lexus says the sloping roofline gives the impression of a four-door coupe which has been fitted with 21-inch aluminum wheels featuring carbon fiber reinforced plastic rims.
Stepping inside the futuristic cabin, the Lexus LF-FC concept comes packed with a plethora of screens that have replaced just about all conventional buttons and there’s also an advanced human machine interface (HMI) with support for gesture controls.
This is an all-wheel drive vehicle thanks to a “high output” fuel cell power system that propels the rear axle and also sends power to the in-wheel motors at the front. There’s no word about power, but Lexus says it’s an “innovative drive system” that grants optimal torque distribution between the front and rear wheels, thus enabling superior handling and road stability.
The LF-FC’s fuel cell stack is positioned at the back of the concept while the power control unit sits in the front to enable a balanced weight distribution also possible thanks to the T-formation of the hydrogen fuel tanks.
