Porsche reportedly planning smaller crossover to slot below Macan

A new report coming from Germany is indicating Porsche has plans for a third crossover.

 

Gone are the days when Porsche was all about the 911 as the Stuttgart-based automaker now has a more diversified lineup that among others includes the Macan and Cayenne crossovers. This body style is still a cash cow in today's market and apparently Porsche wants a bigger piece of the action by working on a smaller high-riding model that will be positioned below the Macan.

 

This is what Auto Bild is saying in a recent report and they say the baby Porsche crossover will be out before the end of the decade, with a preview concept arriving in a couple of years. The model in question is believed to look more aggressive than its two bigger brothers and is expected to have a heavily sloped roofline.

 

Rear-wheel drive will be standard, but more expensive versions are going to be offered with an AWD arrangement. Details regarding the platform are not known at this point, but it's unlikely it will adopt a dedicated architecture, so it will probably be borrowed from other premium VAG models. The report goes on to specify most versions will be offered with four-cylinder engines and a dual-clutch gearbox.

 

It's too early to talk about pricing, but it will obviously cost a lot less than the Macan which in Germany begins at just under €60,000 for the S and Diesel models.

 

On a related note, this won’t be the only new member Porsche plans on adding to its ever growing lineup as there are rumors concerning a smaller Panamera and it even might get a fully electric version as seen in the stunning Mission E concept at last month’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
