Opel reveals leisure-oriented Vivaro Surf concept
Opel has transformed the Vivaro passenger version into a leisure-oriented vehicle and they will show it at IAA next week.
It was designed primarily for large groups of friends or big families that enjoy practicing a variety of sports and Opel says this is the perfect tool since it can host five or six passengers (depending on seat configuration) and a tremendous amount of cargo. It has a copper brown and white exterior finish and rides on a set of Irmscher alloy wheels while the rear air suspension promises to deliver utmost comfort for those inside the cabin.
The interior was modified by Snoeks Automotive and represents the concept's biggest asset as it's large enough to accommodate voluminous cargo, including skiing or snowboard equipment, bikes, surfboards and many other items that have a maximum overall weight of 2,900 kg (5,800 lbs). The doors and tailgate can be opened manually or through the keyless function and provide access to a versatile floor featuring a useful rail system. Under the second row of seats there's a full-width storage box while on the roof sits a bespoke surfboard bracket.
The concept has been equipped with Opel's latest generation of the Navi 50 IntelliLink infotainment system which boasts a 7-inch touchscreen display and provides support to Bluetooth audio streaming, navigation, Siri Eyes Free voice control and it also doubles as a Wi-Fi hot spot. Other goodies include electric folding mirrors, heated front seats, park assist, light & rain sensors and LED daytime running lights.
Power of the Opel Vivaro Surf concept comes from a BiTurbo CDTI engine delivering 140 PS (103 kW) and 340 Nm (251 lb-ft) of torque which enables the vehicle to hit a top speed of 112 mph (180 km/h). It manages to remain very frugal as the ecoFLEX version fitted with the start/stop system has an average fuel consumption of just 6.1 liters / 100 km (38.5 mpg US or 46.3 mpg UK) with corresponding CO2 emissions of 160 g/km.
Although it's billed as a concept, Opel says the IAA-bound Vivaro Surf has chances of reaching production as a limited edition.
