BMW admits they are thinking about an X1 M

A source within BMW told Motoring the second generation X1 could spawn a range-topping M version.

 

An undisclosed source familiar with BMW's product planning said an M version of the company's smallest SAV makes sense, but they haven't decided whether it's worth making.

 

If green-lighted for production, the BMW X1 M would be significantly more powerful than the X1 xDrive25i which uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine producing 231 PS (170 kW) and 350 Nm (258 lb-ft) of torque, enough for a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 6.5 seconds and a 146 mph (235 km/h) top speed.

 

The X1 M will likely have somewhere in the region of 300 PS (221 kW) and would obviously employ the usual M goodies such as a beefier body, quad exhaust system, larger brakes, sportier suspension and other similar tweaks.

 

Even if approved for the production, the BMW X1 M is unlikely to come out sooner than 2017.
