Honda S2000 spiritual successor reportedly getting 400 PS

New details are starting to emerge about a spiritual successor of the popular Honda S2000.

 

Those patent designs which emerged online earlier this week are believed to depict a sub NSX model according to the latest report which goes on to specify it will fill in the gap left after the S2000 was phased out. The mid-engined sportscar has apparently been green-lighted for production and it will likely get the 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo from the 310 PS Civic Type R but further tuned to develop as much as 330 PS (243 kW).

 

The combustion engine will be part of a SH-AWD system as in the NSX and together with the electric motors it will offer the modern S2000 a combined output of approximately 400 PS (294 kW). It will tip the scales at an estimated 1,400 kg (3,086 lbs) as a result of using an aluminum spaceframe along with body panels made from carbon fiber reinforced plastics and aluminum.

 

The report specifies Honda will build the new sportscar alongside the NSX in Ohio, United States and an official reveal of the yet unnamed model is expected in January 2018 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, with sales to commence shortly thereafter at a starting price of less than $77,100 (€68,900).
