Porsche 911 GT3 R race car unveiled with 500 PS and lighter body
Porsche has revealed the racing version of the 911 GT3 RS – the 911 GT3 R.
The machine features a lightweight body with aluminum-steel composite construction and roof, front cover and fairing, wheel arches, doors, side and tail sections as well as the rear cover made of carbon-fibre composite material (CFRP). All windows – and for the first time even the windscreen – consist of polycarbonate.
Thanks to its 8.3-cm longer wheelbase compared to its predecessor, the GT3 R comes with optimized center of gravity. Also improved are the aerodynamics – the wheel arch air vents on the front fairings increase downforce at the front axle, while the 2-m wide rear wing lends aerodynamic balance.
The vehicle is powered by a 4.0-liter flat-six engine, largely identical to the one of the road-legal 911 GT3 RS. It features a direct petrol injection, which operates at pressures up to 200 bar, as well as variable valve timing technology. Maximum power is rated at 500 PS (368 kW), which is transferred to the 310-mm rear wheels via a sequential six-speed constant-mesh gearbox.
Stopping power is provided by an upgraded brake system with six-piston aluminum monobloc racing brake calipers combined with ventilated and grooved steel brake discs with a diameter of 380 mm for the front wheels and four-piston calipers and 372-mm discs for the rear axle.
The Porsche 911 GT3 R will be available at 429,000 EUR (487,644 USD).
