Mercedes-Benz G500 reportedly getting twin-turbo V8 4.0 engine with 422 PS
Wolf-Dieter Kurz, Vice President Product Group SUVs and Sportscars at Mercedes-Benz told Autovisie the G500 is indeed getting the 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo engine. The output has not been finalized but he said it should be close to 422 PS and will be available towards the end of the year.
A new report indicates Mercedes-Benz is planning an engine change for the G500 off-roader.
Mercedes-Benz will allegedly drop the 387 PS 5.5-liter V8 engine of the existing G500 to make room for the 4.0-liter V8 twin-turbo motor borrowed from the AMG GT and C63. This decision has been taken in order to meet the incoming Euro 6 regulations which will come into effect in September. It's actually the same 422 PS (310 kW) engine configuration as seen in the G500 4x42 concept which was unveiled last month at the Geneva Motor Show.
We remind you that a major overhaul is being planned for the G-Glass and will reportedly come out in 2017 bringing a weight loss of more than 200 kg (441 lbs). The car is expected to be 100mm wider and should feature a three- or four-link front suspension, updated electro-mechanical steering system along with inline-six 3.0-liter gasoline and diesel engines which will debut next year in the new E-Class.
