2016 Cadillac CT6 officially unveiled
Cadillac has officially unveiled the 2016 CT6 at the New York Auto Show.
Described as an "entirely new approach to premium luxury," the CT6 is a flagship sedan that features a prominent grille which is flanked by Indirect Fire LED headlights. The model also has an upward sweeping character line, a gently sloping roof and a hands free trunk.
In terms of size, the CT6 measures 204 inches (5184 mm) long, 74 inches (1879mm) wide and 57.9 inches (1472mm) tall with a wheelbase that spans 122.4 inches (3106mm). To put those numbers into perspective, Cadillac says the car has roughly the same dimensions and spaciousness as the short-wheelbase BMW 7-Series.
The interior is notably upscale as it boasts high quality materials, a modern design and a CUE infotainment system with a high-resolution 10.2-inch display. Other notable highlights include an assortment of luxurious leathers as well as exotic wood and carbon fiber trim.
Cadillac declined to release detailed specifications but confirmed the model features a wireless smartphone charger, a center console mounted touchpad controller and OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot.
If that's not impressive enough, the model will be offered with an assortment of high-end options including an Articulating Rear Seat package which features individual rear seats with 3.3 inches of travel and a plethora of adjustments as well as the usual heating, cooling and massage functions. The package also includes a center armrest with HDMI and USB inputs as well as media controls. Speaking of the latter, they control an optional rear seat entertainment system with articulating 10-inch screens that retract and deploy from the front seatbacks.
If that hasn't gotten your interest, perhaps you'll be tempted by the 34-speaker Bose Panaray premium audio system or the Quadzone climate system which features a secondary HVAC system that allows passengers to personalize the temperature and airflow for each seating position.
Under the hood, three engines will be available including:
A turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder with approximately 265 bhp (198 kW)
A naturally-aspirated 3.6-liter V6 with approximately 335 bhp (250 kW)
A twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 with approximately 400 bhp (298 kW) and 400 lb-ft (543 Nm) of torque
The engines are connected to eight-speed automatic transmissions which can be paired to an active-on-demand all-wheel drive system with a "continuously variable clutch that infinitely varies power delivery to the front wheels."
Speaking of performance, the CT6 rides on the aluminum-intensive Omega architecture which enables the car to tip the scales at less than 3700 lbs (1678 kg). Cadillac says this helps to make the CT6 "one of the world’s lightest and most agile full-size luxury performance sedans."
On the safety front, the CT6 is loaded with technology including a 360-degree camera and a night vision system that can identify people and animals via their heat signatures which are displayed on a screen in the instrument cluster. There's also an Advanced Park Assist system with automatic braking and a Pedestrian Collision Mitigation system which alerts the driver about nearby pedestrians and can automatically brake the car to attempt to prevent a collision.
The 2016 Cadillac CT6 will go into production at the company's Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant towards the end of the year. It will be launched in the U.S. shortly thereafter, before heading to China, Europe, Korea, Japan, Israel and the Middle East.
