2016 BMW 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid spied

The 2016 BMW 3-Series Plug-in Hybrid has been spied undergoing cold weather testing in North Europe.

 

Looking virtually identical to the prototype that was unveiled in November, the production model is based on the facelifted 3-Series and features a plug-in hybrid powertrain that consists of a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.

 

This setup will enable the sedan to produce a combined maximum output of 245 PS (180 kW) and 400 Nm (295 lb-ft) of torque. More importantly, the model will consume 2L / 100 km (140 mpg UK / 117 mpg US) and have CO2 emissions of 50 g/km. The car can also drive up to 35 km (22 miles) on electricity alone at speeds up to 120 km/h (74.5 mph).
