Hyundai considering a luxury crossover to battle the Lexus RX

Hyundai's luxury lineup has been limited to sedans such as the Genesis and Equus but a new report is indicating the company is considering a high-end crossover.

 

Speaking to Edmunds, Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski said "We definitely studied a premium people mover. It is not in the plan and it is not eliminated. It is something under consideration."

 

Zuchowski declined to go into specifics but the publication believes the model would battle the Cadillac SRX and Lexus RX - among countless others.

 

Little is known about the model but Zuchowski suggested it could be based on the Santa Fe. This has creates an interesting problem as both models would have to sit in the same showroom. As Zuchowski explained, "The [Lexus] RX is basically the [Toyota] Highlander and they can charge a premium for that vehicle because they are sold in different showrooms."
