BMW X5 plug-in hybrid prototype revealed, will go into production soon

BMW has announced plans to offer an X5 plug-in hybrid.

 

Previewed by the Concept X5 eDrive, the prototype has an a TwinPower Turbo four-cylinder petrol engine, an electric motor and an xDrive all-wheel drive system. Detailed specifications were not released but BMW said the engine and electric motor can work together to maximize performance.

 

Speaking of performance, the model can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than seven seconds and average approximately 3.8 L/100km (61.9 mpg US / 74.3 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of 90 g/km. More importantly, the crossover can travel up to 30 km (18.6 miles) on electricity alone.

 

BMW declined to say when the model will be launched but it will likely wear the X5 eDrive moniker when it goes on sale.
