Mercedes AMG GT to draw cues from the 300 SL that won the 1952 Panamericana

New details are starting to emerge about the highly-anticipated Mercedes AMG GT.

 

Set to be introduced later this year, the model will reportedly draw inspiration from the 300 SL that won the 1952 Panamericana. While it will eschew the gull wing doors, it will be equipped with a prominent grille that is flanked by LED headlights.

 

Mercedes has remained relatively quiet about specifications but the car is expected to feature a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine that develops approximately 485 HP (357 kW). Our spies have also seen a prototype with a four-tailpipe exhaust system which suggests there could be a higher-end S variant with roughly 550 HP (404 kW).

 

Despite the impressive performance, the AMG GT is expected to cost approximately ￡80,000 when it goes on sale in the U.K.
