2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 goes official with at least 625 bhp
Chevrolet has fully revealed the 2015 Corvette Z06 today at NAIAS in Detroit.
The biggest news is in the engine department where the Z06 gets an all-new V8 6.2-liter LT4 supercharged engine equipped with a 1.7-liter Eaton supercharger and an intercooler. The motor is capable of developing "at least" 625 bhp (466 kW) and 635 lb-ft (861 Nm) of torque.
It will work together with either a 7-speed manual gearbox or a newly developed 8-speed automatic transmission. The latter has four gearsets and five clutches and occupies the same space as the 6-speed auto in the Stingray while being 8 lbs (4 kg) lighter and up to 5 percent more efficient thanks to the reduced frictions.
Chevrolet will offer a carbon fiber aero package encompassing a front splitter with aviation-style winglets, larger rear spoiler and rocker panels – all made from carbon fiber. Opt for the Z07 package and the Z06 receives bigger winglets, Michelin Pilot Super Sport Cup Tires, see-through center section on the rear spoiler and carbon ceramic-matrix brakes. When equipped with the Z07 kit, the Z06 will provide the most aerodynamic downforce of any production car made by GM.
The new Z06 sits on 19-inch front alloys shod in P285/30ZR19 tires and on 20-inch rear rims wrapped around in 335/25ZR20 rubbers. It's the first Corvette Z06 to feature a removable roof panel manufactured from carbon fiber which has helped increase the vehicle's structural rigidity by 60 percent, while without it the percentage stands at 20.
The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is scheduled to go on sale early next year.
