New BMW X5 M and X6 M coming late 2014

British media is reporting the new BMW X5 M and X6 M will go on sale towards the end of next year.

 

BMW unveiled the third generation of the X5 back in May and they are now planning to show its coupe-ified sibling, the X6, which will likely be unveiled in March at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Both of them are programmed to receive fully-fledged M versions and this will allegedly happen late 2014.

 

The cars will adopt a more aggressive design and will share the same twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine but its output will likely be lifted from the current 555 HP (408 kW) and 502 lb-ft (680 Nm). Since the new X5 is between 170 lbs (77 kg) and 230 lbs (104 kg) lighter than its predecessor, some the weight savings will be found in the M version as well and will likely be seen in the X6 / X6 M.

 

Extra power and less weight will make them quicker in the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint so the duo should complete the task in less than 4.7 seconds on their way to what will probably be an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h).
