2020 Mercedes S-Class Duo Spied Out On A Date Together
Mercedes-Benz does not want anyone getting a good look at the next-gen Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan, even when the German company is testing the luxury sedan on public roads. While short, this spy video catches a pair of them cruising around the city.
The heavy camouflage and body cladding makes it very difficult to get a good idea of what the new S-Class looks like. In terms of size, the sedan appears a little longer, though. Covering the door handles suggests that Mercedes has something clever to hide there, like possibly making them flush with the body. Up front, a large black panel is likely a sensor for a next-gen driver assistance system. The purple headlight illumination is possibly from Mercedes' Digital Light technology that features over a million micromirrors to direct the light and avoid dazzling people.
Underneath the skin, the S-Class reportedly adopts a new chassis. A combination of aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic would help it shed quite a bit of weight, even if the footprint is larger. Earlier spy shots caught the heavily camouflaged cabin of an S-Class test mule. The sedan features a gargantuan tablet in front of the driver for the instruments. The HVAC vents have mounting points that appear oddly high. This suggests a large portion of the center stack below them might be a digital display, too. The rear seats appear quite spacious, too.
The current speculation suggests Mercedes would introduce the new S-Class in 2020, and it might not arrive in the U.S. until the 2021 model year.
