Lexus LC F getting 621-hp V8?

Lexus quietly trademarked the LC F nameplate last February. A new report coming from Japan sheds insight into what the model will look like, at least on paper.

The heart of the LC F will be a brand-new twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine rated at about 621 horsepower, according to Japanese magazine Holiday Auto. The publication doesn't cite its source within the automaker but it's normally reliable. In comparison, the base LC 500 offers 471 horsepower while the hybrid LC 500h settles for 354 horses.

The F will be about seven percent lighter than the regular LC, which means it might fall under the 4,000-pound mark. Lexus will achieve this by replacing metal parts with components made out of carbon fiber. The chassis will be re-tuned to deliver a more precise driving experience, and the F will likely benefit from upgraded brakes to keep the extra power in check.

Lexus is still developing the LC F. It will begin testing the coupe in real-world conditions (including on Germany's Nurburgring track) late next year, and the model will arrive in showrooms in early 2019. Pricing will start at about 20 million yen, which represents roughly $176,000 at the current conversion rate.
