Toyota teases 2019 Avalon, hints at bolder design

Toyota has released a teaser picture for the redesigned 2019 Avalon, providing a peek at its revamped styling.

 

The new Avalon apparently ditches the current model's soft creases in favor of a more muscular front end with an even bigger grille that appears to adopt an upper element similar to Lexus' characteristic spindle.

 

"Style and dyamism, actualized," Toyota says in its press release, without elaborating.

It is unclear if the drastic changes serve as a preview for a broader shift in Toyota's design language. In any case, the company appears to be splitting from a habit of conservative revisions to help reinvigorate sales as the sedan segment loses ground to SUVs. The Avalon is among the worst hit, with deliveries down by 30 percent in the US for the first 11 months of the year -- the biggest drop of any Toyota model.
