Mercedes Reveals First Look At Next-Gen Sprinter's High-Tech Cabin
Folks making deliveries in the next-generation Mercedes-Benz Sprinter will find themselves in quite a nice place to work, according to the automaker’s newly released photos. The upcoming van will feature an interior that will take cues from Mercedes’ premium models, including metallic trim, a wide infotainment display and digital screen in the instrument panel.
Mercedes’ shots reveal quite a modern cabin for the Sprinter. A three-spoke multifunction steering wheel looks sporty. Drivers look at a pair of analog gauges with a portrait-oriented digital screen between them. Two aircraft-inspired vents add style to the center stack, and the infotainment screen sits in the center. Lower down, the HVAC system has its own control panel. Large storage areas let drivers carry any extra supplies, and there are USB ports for keeping devices charged.
Mercedes doesn’t show off the new Sprinter’s exterior yet, but spy shots provide a good idea of what to expect. A big grille and sharp-edged headlights dominate the front end. The windshield also has a steeper rake to make the van more aerodynamic. The company will offer a variety of wheelbase lengths and roof heights to fit clients’ needs.
A van needs to be ready to work, and Mercedes makes that possible my giving the Sprinter a major technological upgrade. The company’s new Pro Connect Services allows for simpler communication between fleet managers and drivers by connecting the vehicle to the Internet for monitoring things like its location and fuel level in nearly real time.
Mercedes will debut the new Sprinter in February 2018 and production will start in the spring. The company will also expand the van’s powertrain lineup by launching the electric eSprinter in 2019.
