Mercedes E-Class to debut new 2.0-liter engine with 299 hp
Mercedes-Benz has detailed a more powerful 2.0-liter powertrain for the E-Class.
The small turbocharged mill provides 299 horsepower in the upcoming E 350 Coupe and Cabriolet, bridging the gap between the E 300 Sedan's 241-horsepower inline-four and the E 400 Coupe's 329-horsepower biturbo V6.
The revised engine benefits from a 48-volt starter-generator, known as the EQ-Boost, which provides up to 110 pound-feet of supplemental torque at low rpm and a modest 10-horsepower gain. Total system torque reaches 295 pound-feet.
Drivers can expect to reach 62 mph in 5.9 seconds in the coupe or 6.1 seconds in the convertible.
As an added bonus, the EQ-Boost system is said to start the engine almost imperceptibly. It also recuperates up to 12 kW of electricity under deceleration.
