BMW X2 Unveiled With A Mix Of Style And Substance
The newest sport-utility vehicle from BMW is here. The X2 slots between the X1 and X3 in automaker’s lineup. Combined with LED headlights and taillights, unique side skirts, and a roof spoiler, the X2 manages to distinguish itself among the ever-growing SUV ranks.

Inside, the X2 is typical BMW with a range of leatherette Sensatec or full-on leather trim options available. The five-passenger cockpit features fold-down rear seats and offers 50.1 cubic feet of space in back, which doesn’t exactly rewrite any rules for the small SUV segment. Interior design is both elegant and functional with BMW’s Black Panel Technology for the instrument cluster and the free-standing infotainment screen, giving a clean look to the dash when the X2 is turned off. A 6.5-inch or 8.8-inch touch screen is available to access the X2’s suite of on-board tech, which can include the latest driver assist systems such as lane departure warning, active braking, and parking assist. BMW Connected+ is also part of the X2’s portfolio, with mobile WiFi and Apple CarPlay compatibility available as options. No autonomous systems are offered as of yet.

Powering the X2 is BMW’s TwinPower 2.0-liter four-pot, using a TwinScroll turbocharger to make 228 horsepower with 258 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed through an eight-speed Steptronic transmission, which connects to BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive system. BMW says the X2’s chassis is further refined from the X1 to deliver better agility and overall performance while retaining comfortable mannerisms. Three driving modes are available to help make that happen – Comfort, Eco Pro, and Sport – with an optional Dynamic Damper Control adding further adjustability to the suspension settings.
Of course, those wanting a bit more sport with their sports activity vehicle can opt for the X2 M Sport X, which adds 20-inch wheel options and drops the ride height by a half-inch while adding stiffer springs and damper tuning, among other things. The M Sport package doesn’t make any engine changes, though BMW says the boosted 2.0-liter mill will hustle the X2 to 60 miles per hour in 6.3 seconds.

BMW hasn’t announced pricing yet for the X2, which is slated to go on sale next spring.
