Porsche announces lightweight 911 Carrera T
Porsche has announced a new performance version of its 911 sports car. The 911 Carrera T, which stands for Touring, and it is the lightest 911 model available today.
The 911 Carrera T is intended to be the purist's option, with a 7-speed manual transmission, shorter gear ratios, and a locking mechanical differential as standard. Power from its 3.0-liter flat-six remains at 370 horsepower, but torque is bumped up to 338 pound-feet compared to the base 911 Coupe's. The result is a claimed 0-60 time of 4.3 seconds, a tenth quicker than the base model, and a top speed of 182 mph with the manual transmission..
Mild exterior changes include a different front spoiler that comes with Porsche's active suspension management system. Gray mirrors, Carrera S wheels, grille louvers, and badging, as well as a "911 Carrera T" stripe differentiate the model.
Cabin-wise, rear seats have been eliminated and full bucket fronts are available for the first time on the Carrera model. The gear shift has a shortened throw, and the GT Sport steering wheel now includes a button for driving mode selection.
