Ford Focus Crossover-Inspired Active Version Coming
Ford is already working on the next generation of the Focus compact and we know the model will be out sometime next year. A new report indicates the vehicle’s lineup will grow to include a Vignale plush variant and a crossover-inspired Active version.
Ford wants to follow the recipe of the new Fiesta and move the Focus slightly upmarket, the automaker's head of global markets, Jim Farley, revealed to investors earlier this week. Farley and another company spokesman confirmed the new Focus for the European market will be unveiled in January or February next year with sales expected to begin in late summer 2018. The Euro-spec examples will be assembled in Ford’s plant in Saarlouis, Germany, while the U.S. models will be produced in China, as already confirmed by the brand.
Its replacement will ride on a slightly larger platform, which will allow the engineers of the automaker to address one of the biggest issues of the current model – the limited interior space. As far as the design is concerned, don’t expect a revolution, as Ford will rather take the revolutionary approach when it comes to updating the model’s looks, as spy photos have already revealed.
According to some reports, the new Focus will switch to a fully turbocharged powertrain lineup in the United States, while in Europe it will also get revised diesel engines. Ford’s 1.0-liter EcoBoost might be at the bottom of the lineup.
