Mazda3 and 6 get facelift, more tech for 2017
Mazda has given the 3 and the 6 a series of updates for the 2017 model year.
The big news for the new model year is that both the 3 and the 6 gain the company's G-Vectoring Control (GVC) technology, which varies engine torque in response to steering input in order to improve handling and deliver a more comfortable ride. Mazda hasn't revealed whether GVC will come standard or cost extra.
The Mazda6 was recently given a mid-cycle facelift so it enters the 2017 model year without any notable visual modifications. However, the 3 receives a minor facelift which brings a revised grille that makes the front end look wider and lower, LED headlights, and a redesigned rear bumper for the hatchback model. New wheel designs and paint colors round out the visual updates.
Inside, both the 3 and the 6 benefits from better materials, more sound-deadening material, and a new heads-up display. The 3's handbrake has been replaced by an electronic parking brake, a move that frees up space for an additional storage bin in the center console, and it gets a new steering wheel that's similar to the CX-9's. Finally, the door handles boast bigger pockets.
Recent rumors indicated the 3 and the 6 could get a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes up to 250 horsepower when burning premium unleaded. However, there are no mechanical modifications to report for the 2017 model year.
The 2017 Mazda3 and Mazda6 will go on sale in the coming months. Pricing information will be published in the days leading up to their respective on-sale date.
