BMW planning more hardcore M2

BMW has approved the development of a more hardcore M2, according to German media outlets.

 

Called M2 CSL, the track-focused coupe will be powered by an evolution of the standard M2's turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine. Its output could conceivably be bumped up to about 420 horsepower, an increase of roughly 50 horses over the standard model. Rear-wheel drive will be the only configuration available, though whether it will use a manual or a dual-clutch transmission is up in the air at this point.

 

Auto Bild reports that the extra power will be complemented by a diet. BMW will remove a good chunk of the M2's sound-deadening material and toss out the rear bench, and it will manufacture several of the coupe's body panels out of carbon fiber. Of course, the modifications will be complemented by a series of visual updates such as a body kit and a large wing out back.
