2017 Porsche Panamera spotted with almost no camouflage
Judging by the light amount of disguise these two prototypes had, it means an official reveal is quite possibly right around the corner. The white one appears to be a hybrid version judging by the cap on the driver’s side, while the red car had a conventional powertrain. Both prototypes carried camouflage on the headlights, but even so we can already check out the four-point LED design. It’s the same story with the horizontal strip of LED daytime running lights on the front bumper which although masked, it’s easy to see what’s hiding behind the black tape.
Compared to the outgoing Panamera, the biggest change is noticeable aft the C-pillars where the design is considerably sharper now, lending the car a more desirable rear end. There are some stickers on the taillights to hide the design, but most likely the rear clusters will be derived from those of the Panamera Sport Turismo concept.
The all-new Panamera will ride on the MSB platform which is expected to bring a healthy weight loss of up to 200 pounds (91 kilograms). The rumor mill indicates Porsche will install a new family of V6 and V8 engines which should bring more power and improved efficiency.
We know for sure a new hybrid is on the agenda and will definitely have more electric range than the outgoing model. A prototype of the new Panamera S E-Hybrid was spotted in February and its infotainment screen was showing a range of 23.6 miles (38 km), up from the outgoing model’s 22 miles (35 km). That wasn’t a final number, so the production car could come with a higher electric range taking into account it’s going to be lighter and could feature a bigger battery pack.
The second-generation Panamera is expected to show up in the metal early October at the Paris Motor Show, but we won’t be too surprised if Porsche will reveal the car online this summer.
