Ford Focus RS500 under consideration, depends on RS reception

Ford is reportedly considering a high-performance Focus RS500 to slot above the standard model.

According to company insiders who spoke to Motor Mag, the Blue Oval is thinking about a more extreme model which could become the "fastest-accelerating hatchback in history."

Little is known about the car but the publication is reporting it could be equipped with a new front bumper that features larger air intakes and additional vents.  The publication goes on to speculate about carbon fiber reinforced plastic bodywork, forged aluminum suspension components, and a carbon fiber braking system.  Other rumored changes include a stripped-out interior, the removal of some sound insulation material, and electronically-controlled limited-slip differentials.

Power will reportedly be provided by an upgraded 2.3-liter four-cylinder EcoBoost engine.  There's no word on specifications but the engine currently produces 350 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque.  It could be paired to an upgraded dual-clutch transmission.

Ford engineers reportedly believe the performance upgrades could enable the car to be faster than the Audi RS3 and Mercedes-AMG A45.

The model could cost approximately $57,800 which would make it significantly more expensive than the Focus RS.
