奔驰最近正在测试新款紧凑型跨界车GLB，谍照记者拍到了测试照片。奔驰在这一领域已经有了GLA，但新款GLB更大，造型更粗犷，风格深受G级车影响。奔驰在2012年洛杉矶车展发布的Ener-G-Force就是其概念版车型。为了掩人耳目，这辆测试车采用了GLA车身，但轮距明显更宽，轴距也进一步拉长，后轮拱边缘都额外增加了面板。新车将采用下一代前轮驱动紧凑车型专用的MFA平台，称为MFA2.新平台重量进一步降低，可以容纳不同动力系统。英菲尼迪也将利用MFA2平台开发自己的下一代紧凑车型，奔驰和英菲尼迪所有采用该平台的车型都将在墨西哥、欧洲和中国生产。奔驰将于2018年发布GLB，不过该车很可能将作为2020款车型于2019年在美国上市。

Mercedes-Benz is out evaluating a test mule for what’s believed to be a new compact crossover SUV to be called the GLB.

 

Mercedes already competes in this space with the GLA but the new GLB will be a larger, more rugged offering with styling influenced by the iconic G-Class.

 

The Ener-G-Force concept unveiled at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show hints at what’s to come.

 

The new mechanicals are hidden beneath the makeshift body of a GLA but we can clearly see the wider track. The wheelbase has also been stretched, as evidenced by the additional panel at the leading edge of the rear wheel arch.

 

The new mechanicals are a next-generation version of the current MFA (Modular Front-drive Architecture) platform for front-wheel-drive-based compact cars. Referred to as MFA2, the new platform will bring weight savings plus greater capacity for alternative drivetrains and should debut in 2018 in the next-generation A-Class.

 

Infiniti will also use the MFA2 platform for its next-generation compacts, and both Infiniti and Mercedes will produce MFA2-based cars at a plant in Mexico. The cars will also be produced at plants in Europe and China.

 

Look for a debut of the GLB in 2018. The vehicle likely won’t be on sale in the United States until the following year, as a 2020 model.
